Emily Ng (Penn Anthropology)
Emily Ng is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research centers on themes of madness, religiosity, and cosmopolitics, with a regional focus on China. Her first book, A Time of Lost Gods: Madness, Mediumship, and the Ghost after Mao (University of California Press, 2020) explores the divine sovereignty of Mao in contemporary Chinese cosmologies, as well as the multiple grammars of madness between psychiatry and spirit possession. She is working on a new project on perceptions of the unseen across religious communities, through sensory and other modes.
