Students have social and political concerns that can enter into the classroom depending on the topic. How do we teach topics like religion, race, and gender during politically charged times? How can we facilitate productive discussions in the classroom? What kinds of pushback should we anticipate from students, and how can we mitigate it before it occurs and counter it afterwards? How do we know what kinds of statements might be out of bounds, and how do we delineate those boundaries? This workshop will offer a conversation on how to tread this fraught ground with our students in the age of social media and conflict.

This teaching workshop is part of a year-long series organized by CETLI Fellow Jeremy Steinberg.
