Is there a "real" Francis to be known underneath all the reconstructions from the midieval period to the present?  The response to this question is Augustine Thompson's Francis of Assisi: A New Biography (Cornell, 2012), which in the past four years has sold 70,000 copies making it Cornell's bestselling book of all time.  At this luncheon lecture, Professor Thompson will explain the issues at stake, his approach, and the major changes of focus these imply.
