We are sad to report that the Berg Professor of Religious Studies, Emeritus Robert Kraft passed away on September 15, 2023. Starting his career at The University of Pennsylvania in 1963, he trained a generation of early Christianity and biblical scholars, as well as being an innovator in the application of computing to the study of early Christian literature. He was president of the Society of Biblical Literature in 2006, and a co-founder of the Philadelphia Society of Christian Origins, which started in 1963.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues, and friends. We will post a longer remembrance soon, as well as plans for a formal memorial service honoring his life and scholarly accomplishments.
