Center for Teaching and Learning Event: Annette Y. Reed (RELS), "After World Religions: New Challenges and Opportunities"

Mar 6, 2014 at - | Cohen Hall 203, University of Pennsylvania

Theoretical approaches to the study of religion across traditions and cultures are often at odds with practical strategies for introducing undergraduates to those very traditions and cultures. How can comparative courses in religion address and overcome this tension? What are the kinds of student desires that motivate their enrollment in religious studies courses? What are the options available for textbooks and how do we utilize them in our classes if they do not reflect the current state of scholarship? Professor Reed will discuss these topics and more, as well as sharing some thoughts on how thinking about these issues can be a critical part of a graduate student’s professional development.
