PhD Candidate Kirby Sokolow has received a Dissertation Research Award in support of her archival and oral historical research for her dissertation, “Buddhist Exceptionalism Behind Bars: Transforming Race, Religion, and Power." The funds will support visits to three archival research sites: the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Seattle, WA and in Kansas City, MO and the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s special collections in Honolulu, HI. She will also interview prison chaplains and leaders of private and nonprofit Buddhist and Buddhism-informed meditation prison programs in Seattle and Honolulu.
Congratulations, Kirby!
