Julio Nascimento is a doctoral student in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, studying the development of modern Japanese Buddhism, including lay Buddhist movements and the use of media as a means of proselytization. Julio received his Bachelor of Arts in Japanese and Portuguese Language and Literature from the University of São Paulo (Brazil). During his BA, he spent a year studying Japanese at the Aichi Prefectural University. Julio graduated with his Masters's in Liberal Arts from Tohoku University (Japan) and History from the State University of Campinas (Brazil) after spending five years in Japan.
