Here's a quick explanation of how to use the News queue in this Drupal site. This feature allows you to list stories and events in any order.
The News queue is a Nodequeue, which in Drupal, is a queue of nodes. It allows you to list any nodes (for example, stories and events) in any order. At this time, this Drupal site has one nodequeue, which controls the list of nodes that appear in the "News" block in the right sidebar on the front page of the site.
Managing the Queue
To manage a queue, you have to be logged in as a Site Manager.
Then, while you're looking at this node (i.e., this story), click on the tab labeled "Nodequeue". You'll see a list of nodequeues. At this time, there is only one nodequeue in the list: "News queue". You'll see a link for the queue, and you'll see a link to remove each node from the queue.
Click on the link for "News queue". That will take you to a page where the nodes in the "News" queue are listed.
For each node in the queue, this list gives you links to the actual nodes (in case you want to see or edit them) and to their authors. It also gives you links to operations. If you mouse over the icons in the Operations column, you'll see that you can move each node up or down in the queue and you can remove a node from the queue.
Adding a Node to the Queue
There are three ways to add a node to the queue.
1. When you're logged in as a Site Manager, you'll see a link labeled "add to news queue" below each event and news story. If you click the link, that node will be added to the end of the news queue.
2. There's another way to add a node to a queue. If you are looking at any node, the type of which can be added to a queue (in this case, a story or an event), you'll see the Nodequeue tab. If you click on it, you'll see a link that allows you to add it to a queue.
3. You can also add a node while you're managing the queue, as follows.
Below the list of nodes is a blank labeled "Select title to add". You can type in part of a title of a node you'd like to add. Drupal will try to find that title. If you find the node you want, you can add it to the queue.
When you add a node to a queue, it's added to the end (the bottom) of the queue. You can then click the link to manage the queue, if you wish to move it to another location in the queue.
Removing a Node from the Queue
Removing a node from the queue doesn't delete the node. The node is still available, but it's no longer in the queue.
There are three ways to remove a node from the queue.
1. When you're logged in as a Site Manager, you'll see a link labeled "remove from news queue" below each node that's in the queue. If you click the link, that node will be removed from the news queue.
2. If you are looking at a node that can be added to a queue (in this case, a story or an event), you'll see the Nodequeue tab. If you click on it, you'll see a link that allows you to remove it from the queue.
3. You can also remove a node while you're managing the queue.
