Chris Ahrens is a PhD Student in Religious Studies, focusing their studies on manifestations of and interactions with Islamic material and visual culture, in particular the Iberian Peninsula and its tradition of Arabic-script calligraphy. They are currently working on orienting the Andalusian calligraphic script in the broader continuity of Kufic-influenced styles of writing. They are also interested in modern forms and styles of Islamic calligraphy, particularly artists and works which deviate strongly from traditional styles and methods.
