RELS undergrads Olivia Haynie and Justin Seward presented their findings from their summer project with Prof. Donovan Schaefer at the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships research expo on Monday, Sept. 19, in Houston Hall. Their work was funded by a Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring grant through CURF.
Olivia and Justin are members of the research team for "Hard Feelings: Historic Black Perspectives on Confederate Monuments." As part of the research, they looked through digitized archives of hundreds of Black newspapers going back to the Reconstruction era to build a database of Black American responses to Confederate commemoration in the South.
